Unknown Waters
The following images were taken on a 4 x 5 Toyo camera. These images intend to force the viewer to slow down and look with intentionality, much like how they were captured.
This body of work is centered around the idea of duality. Duality informs us not just of who we are, but of the multiple ways we can be. Throughout my work, I twist the mythological story of Narcissus, a man looking deep into the water, enamored by his own reflection. I see this body of work in the same realm, except the viewer nor the woman cannot grasp the opinion of true identity. I probe questions of: Does she only exist within how she physically sees herself, or can she also exist in the ways the world sees her? Is it possible to exist without knowing who you are?
