Mac Cooper (she/they) is a curator and photographer working in Nashville, TN. She graduated with her MA in the History of Art with Curating from the University of London, Birkbeck, and her BA in Art History and Archaeology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her research and curatorial practice focuses on twentieth-century and contemporary photography, as well as contemporary art. Her curatorial vision is driven by the desire to contribute to broader conversations about gender, race, equity, and sustainability. At the core of her practice, she believes art has the power to reshape narratives, expand perspectives, and ignite collective empathy.
Cooper's artwork navigates personal family histories and legacies as well as nature and the female form. She seeks to create windows that are reminiscent of planes throughout time.
Cooper has worked with numerous galleries and institutions, including the Frist Art Museum, Nashville, TN; Arcade Arts, Nashville, TN; Orr Street Studios and Galleries, Columbia, MO; George-Caleb Bingham Gallery, University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, MO; etc.
